Professor Manolis Kavussanos is an international authority in shipping finance. He holds a BSc and an MSc in Economics from the University of London, and a PhD in Applied Economics from City University Business School (Cass), London. He has held various academic posts at Cass Business School, City University, London, including Reader in Shipping Economics and Finance. While at Cass, he launched the MSc program in Trade, Transport and Finance and remained its Director until he joined Athens University of Economics and Business, as a Professor of Finance, where he is also the Director of the MSc /PhD programs in Accounting and Finance and of the Research Centre for Finance.

Professor Kavussanos has lectured internationally in subject areas such as Financial Derivatives, Investments and Portfolio Management, Financial Management, Corporate Finance, Shipping Investment & Finance, Maritime Business, Transportation Finance, and Financial Economics. He has received the best lecturer award at Cass, and has also lectured as a visiting professor at Erasmus University, Rotterdam; University of Antwerp, Belgium, University of Piraeus; Hellenic Open University and LUISS University, Rome. At the same time he has provided his expertise in finance, transportation and shipping, to a number of organizations internationally, like the Commission of the European Communities, Governmental bodies, and other public and private companies.

Professor Kavussanos has written extensively in the areas of finance, shipping and applied economics and has been the author of numerous pieces of award-winning academic work presented in academic and practitioner conferences around the globe and published in top international refereed journals and in collective book volumes. His work has been presented in conferences in the UK, Italy, Greece, China, Korea, Hong Kong, USA, Canada and Australia, amongst others, and in professional meetings such as in the UK and Turkish Chambers of Shipping. He has published books, edited journal guest volumes, organized international conferences and serves on the editorial board of academic journals. His published work has been cited widely, while its outcomes are used for teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. He is the author of the unique and most comprehensive book on risk management and derivatives in shipping.
